  • Local organizations supported Ronald McDonald House at the 13th annual Red Shoe Affair on August 16 — they raised funds and volunteered to help families in need.  WCJB
  • TV20’s Robert Bradfield and Bradley Benoit had a booth at the North Central Florida Outdoor Expo at World Equestrian Center, where they joined hundreds of vendors Saturday morning—showcasing local outdoor interests.  WCJB

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A grease fire at a northeast Ocala home on Friday afternoon claimed three cats—firefighters used a preconnected hose line to quickly extinguish the blaze after residents evacuated.  Ocala-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ocala property owner Sumner Real Estate Investments is seeking to rezone a .45-acre site at 3235 SE Maricamp Road—formerly used for batting cages—for a new drive-through restaurant at Maricamp Square. The rezoning request by Irvin Homes, LLC will be introduced at the Ocala City Council meeting on August 19 at 4 p.m.  Ocala-News

CRIME NEWS

  • At around 2:35 a.m. on Saturday, a fatal accident occurred when a 28-year-old Belleview woman veered off State Road 35 and SE 102nd Place Road and struck a large tree—ejecting a 27-year-old Ocala passenger who was not wearing his seatbelt; the woman was later arrested on a DUI manslaughter charge and suffered only minor injuries.  Ocala-News

  • Ocala Police Department invites residents to join a free six-week Citizen Police Academy from Sept. 8 to Oct. 13 with Monday evening sessions at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its headquarters — applicants must be 21 or older and register by Aug. 30 to secure a spot.  Ocala-News
