  • Ocala residents visited Fort King this past weekend to see reenactments of Second Seminole War battles and handle live reptiles — a historic festival that brought the past to life.  WCJB
  • A free family holiday event featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus returns to Historic Downtown Square starting tomorrow (Dec. 9) with photo opportunities and treats on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., continuing through Dec. 18.  Ocala-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flags across Florida were flown at half-staff on Sunday, Dec. 7 to honor those killed in the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941 — officials noted the action followed Public Law 103-308 and a proclamation was expected.   • A public meeting is set for Tuesday to review the Ocala International Airport Master Plan, and proposals for a Cultural Arts Center will be discussed on Wednesday; legislative campus visits and graduation ceremonies are scheduled for Friday at local venues.  WCJB
  • The U.S. Navy will conduct live and inert bombing exercises at the Pinecastle Range Complex in the Ocala National Forest on Dec. 12 (2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and Dec. 13 (7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). Officials urge extra caution on forest roads as wildlife may be temporarily displaced.  Ocala-News
