ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a fire alarm at a downtown sports bar at 20 South Magnolia Avenue on Thanksgiving afternoon — firefighters found a hidden fire under a tile on the third floor — and they controlled the blaze with no injuries reported while fire officials investigate the cause.  Ocala-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • La Carreta Supermarket just opened its doors at 253 Marion Oaks Boulevard in south Ocala—offering a wide range of Hispanic foods like vegetables, fruits, meats, rice, beans, and spices with a cash discount. The store is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with shorter hours on Sunday when it closes at 9 p.m.  Ocala-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Florida gas prices reached an average of $3.05 per gallon on Monday—up from $2.86 last week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The state price rose about 20 cents since last month and is 0.2% lower than the national average of $3.06.  Ocala StarBanner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ocala Sunset Rotary Club asked city officials to designate a historic marker titled "Elvis in Ocala, Tom Petty Inspired" in honor of when 10-year-old Tom Petty met Elvis Presley during filming in July 1961 at the former Commercial Bank and Trust Company on E Silver Springs Boulevard — the proposal will be presented to the City Council on Tuesday, December 2.  Ocala-News
