- ➤ More than 2,000 participants took part in the YMCA Frank DeLuca Turkey Trot in Ocala, braving the chill as runners, walkers, and folks in turkey costumes joined the event. The race celebrated personal health goals and family fun—participants marked milestones such as significant weight loss while enjoying a festive community run. WCJB
- ➤ Ocala residents are invited to safely dispose of used cooking oil at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park at 2105 NW 21st St. and at the Water Reclamation Facility #2 at 4200 SE 24th Street on Saturday, November 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—customers may bring up to 5 gallons in a sealed container. - ➤ After a news story on kratom policy, several Ocala residents and a business owner sent letters challenging Mayor Ben Marciano’s claims about natural leaf kratom. They argued that kratom helps with pain and sobriety and said the mayor wrongly compared it to alcohol—urging local leaders to review the facts. Ocala-News

- ➤ James, a trailblazer in the local horse industry, began working in thoroughbred racing in 1964—he became Marion County’s first African American trainer and later trained Triple Crown winner Affirmed. WCJB
- ➤ Ocala experienced a major fire on November 29th, 1883, that destroyed several downtown blocks, including key buildings and business records, and caused an estimated loss of $350,000 (equivalent to nearly $11 million today). The disaster spurred rapid rebuilding with brick and fireproof materials and led to the formation of the city's first formal fire department on May 20th, 1885. Ocala-News
