  • Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida officials say nearly 50 families are staying at the center today for Thanksgiving— the organization is providing essential housing and support during the holiday.  WCJB
  • Today, the High Springs Mobile Food Bank hosts a Thanksgiving food giveaway to help families have a full dinner plate—volunteers from across North Central Florida have donated their time and resources to the effort.  WCJB
  • TV20 Chief Meteorologist Mike Potter, who forecasted weather for North Central Florida for over 33 years, announced his retirement on November 26th+ marking the end of his long career.  WCJB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A developer plans a new Patel Fuel Spires gas station next to a luxury apartment complex in northwest Ocala, with 7,000 square feet of commercial space and 52 parking spots at 5149 NW Blitchton Road. The project, which is expected to generate 1,383 net new trips, is set for further review by the planning and zoning commission—final approval will come later from the county board—.  Ocala-News
  • An Ocala business owner said that employee impairments linked to kratom use have hurt her business and urged Mayor Marciano to keep retail restrictions—she said that letting two employees go and counseling another shows the dangers of the substance for both workers and local businesses. She called on county commissioners to support the mayor’s stance to protect the community.  Ocala-News

  • Horse Capital TV will highlight how Persaud Legacy Farm in Marion County has become a retirement home for horses after a Tampa business owner updated the thousand-acre farm — the show airs this week.  WCJB
  • World Atlas has named seven Florida downtowns as the most festive for the 2025 holiday season, with towns hosting elaborate light displays, parades, and community events. Ocala will celebrate with a Christmas Parade, holiday concerts at Tuscawilla Park, and local markets, while Mount Dora and West Palm Beach add to the season with over 2 million lights and a 35-foot sand tree respectively.  Ocala StarBanner

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health officials issued a rabies alert after a downtown cat tested positive following a raccoon case at Meadow Wood Farms off Hill Prince Drive on November 18. Residents are advised to avoid wild animals and ensure pets are vaccinated — precautions necessary to prevent further exposure.  Ocala-News
