- ➤ The family of high school senior Shannon Rushing, who was hit by a car near her bus stop at around 6:20 a.m. Monday on Northwest Old Blitchton Road, launched a petition for road safety improvements—seeking better lighting, sidewalks, and signage—as officers continue investigating the crash. - ➤ Uptown Cheapskate opened in southwest Ocala last week at 3930 SW 42nd Street in the Berkshire Oaks shopping center and is buying freshly laundered, in style clothing for cash or 25% extra store credit ahead of its official grand opening. The store operates Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., offering local residents a chance to sell, trade or purchase items. Ocala-News

- ➤ A casting call is open for a Caucasian boy ages 8-13 with horse riding skills to play Zech MacIvey in the upcoming TV series A Land Remembered, based on Patrick Smith's historic novel. Self-taped auditions are due by 12 p.m. EST Nov-14 and in-person callbacks will be held Nov-22 in Ocala with details sent to the parent or guardian. Ocala Gazette
- ➤ Ocali Country Days will take place on Nov. 8 and 9 at the Silver River Museum campus inside Silver Springs State Park, where guests will see living history exhibits, craft demonstrations, live music, vendors, and museum tours—admission will be $10 per person and free for kids age 5 and younger. - ➤ On Oct. 27, the Dunnellon City Council voted 5-0 to send a letter to the state DEP opposing a permit for a rail tie shredding facility near Chatmire—citizens and officials warned that creosote-treated ties could harm local health and the environment, especially near the Rainbow River.
