  • On Oct. 24, guests from the thoroughbred industry attended the FTBOA Hall of Fame reception at the FTBOA offices in Ocala where the association inducted honorees including Arthur I. Appleton and others. Family members and board representatives were present, with Linda Potter representing her late father—honoring the legacy of Florida thoroughbreds.  Ocala Gazette

  • Big Lots has returned to Ocala at 8445 SW State Road 200 in the Friendship Center shopping plaza by taking over a former Roses Discount Store location—this store is less than a mile from one of the three Big Lots that closed just over six months ago.  Ocala-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ocala's Star-Banner and ocala.com now invite the community to nominate teachers for the Amazing Teacher program sponsored by Florida Credit Union—this program honors educators with local stories and prizes. Nominations must be submitted online with a brief explanation of why a teacher made a difference, and selected entries may be considered for national awards.  Ocala StarBanner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An Ocala resident warned that the new planters on State Road 200 may force trucks and trailers into snake-like turns that can lead to harder-to-navigate roads and more accidents—similar to Lakeland's past Road Diet that was poorly received and removed.  Ocala-News
  • Marion County officials dedicated a stretch of County Road 475 as Charlie Kirk Way on Friday to honor the late activist’s leadership, faith, and service—attended by local residents and marking the county commission's commitment to civility. The commission also approved October 14 as a day of remembrance to recognize Kirk's influence as the roadway connects three local schools.  Ocala-News
  • Roswell Steadman wrote that Ocala will grow due to more affordable homes and expanded services at the World Equestrian Center, and local officials must improve roads and utilities to meet rising needs + he noted that small towns and large retailers typically develop in different areas based on traffic flow.  Ocala-News
