  • Residents have written letters that criticize rapid development in Ocala — they note that woods have been cut down and new projects like a fire department, hotels, and apartments are creating more traffic and changing the town's character. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 66-year-old Ocala motorcyclist lost control and was fatally run over by SUVs on U.S. 441 near NW 223rd Street in Micanopy on Saturday at around 8 a.m.—the crash blocked traffic and marks the 16th motorcycle fatality in Marion County this year.  Ocala-News

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 20, a Marion County deputy arrested 22-year-old Aaliyah Elise Greene outside Ocala’s Pilot Travel Center—she allegedly reached through a vehicle’s open window and attacked her friend, leaving scratch marks on her face.  Ocala-News
  • On August 23, a domestic disturbance took place at Green Gables Apartments in Ocala when a man allegedly stabbed a woman in the neck—officers and SWAT Team members from the Ocala Police Department responded to the scene.  Ocala Gazette

  • Marion County Public Schools and the College of Central Florida will host a free Careers and Colleges Expo at the Ewers Century Center in Ocala on August 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the two-hour event will connect students with representatives from public and private colleges, technical institutes and military branches.  Ocala-News
