Residents have written letters that criticize rapid development in Ocala — they note that woods have been cut down and new projects like a fire department, hotels, and apartments are creating more traffic and changing the town's character.

The letters from both longtime locals and recent arrivals show growing worry that these changes will erase the area’s natural charm.

A 66-year-old Ocala motorcyclist lost control and was fatally run over by SUVs on U.S. 441 near NW 223rd Street in Micanopy on Saturday at around 8 a.m.—the crash blocked traffic and marks the 16th motorcycle fatality in Marion County this year.

On August 20, a Marion County deputy arrested 22-year-old Aaliyah Elise Greene outside Ocala’s Pilot Travel Center—she allegedly reached through a vehicle’s open window and attacked her friend, leaving scratch marks on her face.
