FINANCE NEWS

  • A Marion County man won over $27,000 in lottery winnings when Donnell Cox claimed about $27,124.21 from his Fantasy 5 ticket purchased at the Lake Weir Mobil gas station in Ocklawaha from the July 24 drawing—he was one of four winners who matched all five numbers. About 149 others claimed $117 each for matching four numbers in the drawing.  Ocala-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the US Navy resumes inert bomb tests in Ocala National Forest—scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.—and will conduct further tests on August 19th, 20th, and 21st while wildlife is expected to be temporarily displaced and motorists are urged to drive with extra caution.  Ocala-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ocala has introduced a new psychiatric residency program that trains medical school graduates to become psychiatrists—this initiative boosts the city’s health care workforce beyond its well-known equine culture.  WCJB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A property owner is asking the Ocala City Council to rezone parcels that include a church and vacant land at 458 NW 1st Street for future commercial development. The council will review the request on August 19 at 4 p.m.—city staff supports the plan as matching the area's future land use.  Ocala-News
