CRIME NEWS

  • Marion County deputies discovered a dying man with a gunshot wound at Northeast 54th Place in Silver Springs Saturday evening—after he was pronounced dead at the scene, they began investigating the shooting.  WCJB
  • A Marion County man, identified as 33-year-old Ebbonee Mathis, was charged with aggravated assault after he threatened to stab a person and kicked down a door—he was booked into jail Friday morning following a search by an air unit and K-9 team.  WCJB
  • Ivan Rondon—an Ocala man from Marion Oaks—filed a federal lawsuit on July 29 against the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and jail, alleging he was detained for two days despite posting a $25,000 bond, was racially traumatized, and was denied prescribed medications for schizophrenia and anxiety which worsened his condition.  Ocala-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state began tax exemptions for school supplies and hurricane supplies on Friday. The school supply exemption runs through August and no longer requires annual reauthorization—while the hurricane supplies exemption covers items such as batteries, fuel tanks, generators and tarps all year round.  WCJB
