CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kent Sloan and his wife filed a lawsuit on July 22 against Publix — located at 3450 E Silver Springs Boulevard — alleging that on June 12 at 12:08 p.m. an employee struck him with a train of carts near the store entrance, leaving him with permanent injuries that required hospital care and prompting a claim for over $50,000 in damages. - ➤ A former federal corrections officer from Ocala was sentenced to three years in prison after accepting $44,000 in bribes to smuggle drugs into a facility—he was also ordered to repay the bribes after investigators found over 600 grams of marijuana and other drugs last year. WCJB
- ➤ Belleview police arrested 25-year-old Sammy Hill after he allegedly shot a victim outside Tropical Vibes Restaurant and Bar on July 26 at about 1:40 a.m. when he confronted a third victim over money, causing stray rounds that wounded two others inside; he is held in Marion County Jail without bond and will appear in court (August 26, 9 a.m.).
