- ➤ Marion County Fire Rescue crews reported a fire at 5:49 a.m. that destroyed Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Northeast 140th Street in Citra on Monday morning, and firefighters arrived in less than 10 minutes to control the blaze while the State of Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives investigates its cause—no injuries were reported. - ➤ Marion County planners recommended denying FishHawk Spirits’ special permit on July 28 due to repeated rule breaks—unpermitted buildings and missing plans keep the distillery from meeting safety conditions. The final decision on the permit will be made by the County Board in August. Ocala-News

- ➤ A Florida-based competition offering up to $5,000 for filmmakers was launched in 2024 by sisters Vyke and Diana Saiz to help local storytellers who lack funds.
