ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 14-year-old girl died on Monday morning in Live Oak after a dump truck struck her while she was walking on the shoulder near State Road 51 — troopers said she stepped into the lane around 10:30 a.m.  WCJB

CRIME NEWS

  • Marion County deputies arrested a man for possessing nearly 100 grams of cocaine—and almost 100 opioid pills—removing the drugs from the street.  WCJB
  • Police arrested six people on June 14 during No Kings protests in Florida, including three arrests in Ocala, while other arrests occurred in Tallahassee, Orlando and Panama City Beach — FDLE said the protests remained peaceful with no blocked roads or property damage.  Ocala StarBanner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida law does not allow schools to start before Aug.10 so most districts have set school to begin on Monday, Aug.11 for the 2025–2026 year—some, like Miami-Dade and Pasco, have later start dates.  Ocala StarBanner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veterans in North Central Florida learned about available benefits after a resource event held in Ocala on Monday—officials say the session helped them access needed services.  WCJB
  • The Ocala City Council will vote today at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall on an ordinance to remove the fluoride addition requirement from the city code. The measure comes as the city responds to the new Florida Farm Bill—designed to ban medical additives from public water systems—and will ensure compliance when the law takes effect on July 1.  Ocala-News
  • The Ocala City Council will consider increasing water and sewage fees today at 4 p.m. at City Hall—proposals include escalating impact fees for new development and an average 5% increase in residential water and wastewater bills over the next four years, with new rates starting Oct 1. Raftelis Financial Consultants noted that rising operating costs have prompted the need for these changes.  Ocala-News
