  • The Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is hosting Table Tennis Nights today at Mary Sue Rich Community Center from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with certified instructors from the Ocala Table Tennis Club helping players of all skill levels (the free program is open to teens and adults with no registration required).  Ocala-News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Marion County Fire Rescue responded to a mobile home fire in Fort McCoy on Wednesday morning at 5:21 a.m.—cats were safely removed and pigs were found safe in their pen—while residents self-evacuated; the incident occurred less than 24 hours after another mobile home fire killed two dogs and the fire's cause remains under investigation.  Ocala-News

  • The rescheduled Symphony Under the Stars event will take place today at the Ocala Golf Club after a May 11 date was changed due to inclement weather. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An Ocala farmer who manages 40 acres of palm trees warned city officials Tuesday, June 3 that a Texas-based disease is killing local palms and has left at least 89 trees needing removal. He noted that Texas Phoenix palm decline—also seen along State Road 40—has spread quickly on city property despite ongoing inoculation and removal efforts.  Ocala-News
