- ➤ Ocala city leaders will host Patriotic Skies on July 4 (6 to 10 p.m.) at 800 Northeast Sanchez Ave to celebrate Independence Day with live music, food trucks, a fireworks show starting around 9:30 p.m., and free shuttle service. - ➤ A 27-year-old Miami man died after driving the wrong way on U.S. Highway 27 east of NW 95th Avenue Road when his sedan collided head-on with an SUV driven by a 69-year-old Perry woman early Wednesday morning, and the highway was closed until 5:10 a.m. while she received treatment at a local hospital. - ➤ Two dogs died in a mobile home fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in Citra — Marion County firefighters arrived at 2 p.m., brought the blaze under control by 2:35 p.m. and discovered the dogs during their search while the cause remains under investigation. ClickOrlando

- ➤ Ocala Horse Alliance launched its Black Stallion Reading Program that brings horses into classrooms to boost student reading skills — Horse Capital TV showed how students are reacting. WCJB
- ➤ A summer literacy program starts today in downtown Ocala at the Marion Theater — local children will listen to books about horses and meet real ones from Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses. The program will run every Thursday until July 25 and each week offers a new book for children to take home. Ocala-News

- ➤ Ocala City Council will hold a second reading on June 17 of a proposed ordinance to stop adding fluoride to the city’s water supply—officials introduced the measure on June 3 to comply with a state law taking effect July 1 that bans local fluoridation and have already stopped orders for fluorosilicic acid from a Chiefland supplier costing $50,000 a year.
