  • Families braved rain last Friday for a free outdoor screening of Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 at Midtown Station. The event, hosted by the Marion County Children’s Alliance, offered snacks, giveaways and prevention resources for local families.  WCJB
  • Marion County Animal Services needs clean bath- and body-sized towels for animal care at its new shelter located at 6405 FL-40. Donations are accepted Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (GPS users should enter the address as 6405 FL-40).  Ocala-News
  • The free God in My Family Festival is celebrating faith and togetherness today at Tuscawilla Art Park in Ocala + live music, food trucks, and kid activities will be on display at 213 NE 5th Street.  Ocala-News

  • BJ's Wholesale Club broke ground on its first Ocala location on Wednesday, May 27 at 7030 SW 59th Avenue. The club, part of the Winding Oaks development (southwest Ocala), is expected to open later this year.  Ocala-News
  • A new Buc-ee's travel center is set to open in Ocala near the I-75 interchange at NW 49th Street by 2029 — though some residents worry it may increase traffic and affect the local environment.  Ocala StarBanner

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ocala Symphony Orchestra will celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday with Red, White and OSO Blue performances at Reilly Arts Center on June 27 and 28, led by Music Director Matthew Wardell. The concerts will feature the world premiere of Revolutionary Triptych plus a salute to veterans.  Ocala Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center reported no active tropical threats (based on the May 29 outlook), but forecasters say warm waters may trigger storm development near Florida in early June. Residents are urged to prepare as the hurricane season starts on June 1.  Ocala StarBanner
  • U.S. Forest Service updated wildfire efforts in Ocala National Forest. The nearly 1,000-acre Shell Fire at 10% containment near Astor and the 27-acre Lake Dorr 2 Fire near Pittman were detailed — officials warned visitors of dangerous heat and low visibility amid ongoing drought.  Ocala-News
