  • The Marion Theatre will host free movie screenings for kids from Tuesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. through July 1 at 50 S Magnolia Avenue in downtown Ocala—upcoming films include Puss in Boots: The Last Wish on June 3, Sing 2 on June 10, The Wild Robot on June 17, Trolls Band Together on June 24, and The Land Before Time on July 1.  Ocala-News

CRIME NEWS

  • A man aged 21 was arrested on DUI charges in Marion County after his Kia Sorento crossed into oncoming traffic on Feb. 1st at C.R. 484 and San Pedro Boulevard, killing a woman aged 50 from Ocala—he admitted drinking before driving with a suspended license and his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.  ClickOrlando
  • Ocala police said a man was found dead on Saturday night outside an Amoco station in the 3800 block of SW College Road—there were no signs of trauma or foul play and officials confirmed no threat to the public.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 31-year-old Logan William Fisher on Wednesday, May 21 for allegedly stealing a 12-foot airboat valued at about $15,000 from a home on NE 132nd Place in Citra after a neighbor reported it being towed by a tan Chevrolet pickup truck, and the airboat was later recovered on NE 223rd Lane in Fort McCoy.  Ocala-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ocala ranked second in the nation for move-ins, according to PODS' annual Moving Trends Report released Tuesday, May 20, with only Myrtle Beach and Wilmington surpassing its numbers — the city has held a top-ten spot for five consecutive years. The report also noted that nearly 92% of long-distance moves were out-of-state and averaged almost 1,300 miles.  Ocala-News

  • Belleview High School's Class of 2025 celebrated its commencement on May 24 with 15 valedictorians honored and photos taken as graduates adjusted their caps—family and friends watched every step of the ceremony.  Ocala StarBanner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials reported three brush fires in Ocala National Forest following a thunderstorm: the Eagle Fire is burning about two acres near Forest Roads 11 and 50, the Hughes Fire slowed by rain, and the Bullbat Fire near County Road 314 is being managed with dozer lines and a helicopter’s water drops — reducing fire behavior while officials warn that more lightning could spark additional fires.  ClickOrlando

  • Marion County officials lifted the boil water notice for two communities on May 24th, so residents can now use tap water without boiling it.  WCJB

  • Marion County’s flag football season in 2024 to 2025 saw record-breaking plays from top players—Jakyra Bostick, Tony'ah Boggs, and Hannah Mason—earning Athlete of the Year nominations after setting new county records.
