- ➤ An Ocala man received a life sentence on May 7 for premeditated first-degree murder after fatally shooting 44-year-old David Vega in November 2020 at a residence on NW 16th Place—video and audio evidence linked him to the incident. Ocala-News

- ➤ WalletHub ranked Ocala among the bottom cities for student debt to income ratio—its study showed a 39.04% ratio with a median debt of $20,091 and median earnings of $51,468 for bachelor’s degree holders. - ➤ Marion County Public Schools will host a hiring event for teachers and staff this weekend — at the College of Central Florida’s Klein Conference Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Later events on June 19 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on July 17 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. will offer job interviews and conditional contracts — with the July session open for positions across all departments. - ➤ City officials reopened Ocala Wetland Recharge Park on Thursday morning after closing it on May 9 because of multiple sinkholes and subsidences.
