  • Marion County officials warned that heavy traffic is expected today as road closures on County Road 475A and Southwest 16th Avenue northbound affect commuters near Florida Horse Park for the Rock the Country music festival. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A pilot crashed his Cessna 182A into the right-of-way off SW 67th Avenue Road on May 7 when approaching the Ocala International Airport and was trauma-alerted to a local hospital—Ocala Police said he is expected to survive while the FAA investigates the cause.  Ocala-News

  • Ocala Metro CEP will host its first OMCF Lender Matchmaking Event on May 29th at 9 a.m. at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place in Ocala — local business owners can meet traditional lenders and experts to learn about funding options, with speakers from Florida First Capital Financial and the SBA offering tips on improving bankability.  WCJB

CRIME NEWS

  • Today, Ocala police responded to a bank robbery when a white male suspect entered a bank to demand cash and used a teller as a shield before fleeing in a vehicle that flipped on its side near Southern Pig and Cattle along SE Maricamp Road after a six-minute chase reaching speeds up to 90 mph—one suspect who raised his handgun was shot in the wrist and is expected to recover while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.  WCJB

  • Marion County Public Schools said athletic director Donnie Tucker received the 2025 State Award of Merit last weekend at the FIAAA conference in Kissimmee. He holds a CAA credential and has ten years of experience+he helped the district become NCAA eligible and bring the FHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships to Ocala.  WCJB
