  • Today, the Marion County School Board will vote to name interim superintendent Danielle Brewer—selected from seven candidates—who will begin immediately and serve until April 29, 2026 or until a permanent replacement is named.  FOX 35 Orlando

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Emergency personnel responded yesterday to two lightning-caused fires in Ocala National Forest—one east of NE 145th Avenue and another east of NE 131st Avenue—that were confined at about five acres each, prompting a temporary closure of the Florida Scenic Trail from NE 145th Avenue to NE 52nd Place Rd. Firefighters continue to manage a 200+ acre fire at a bombing range with suppression efforts ongoing and no values at risk.  Ocala-News
  • Florida's alligator mating season runs from April through June and brings more gators close to yards and pools. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission runs a Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program — residents must call 866-392-4286 for removal since shooting alligators without a permit is illegal.  Ocala StarBanner
