ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a burning building in Summerfield Tuesday night and worked to control the structure fire.  WCJB
  • A semi-truck flipped over today in Ocala and first responders reported that about 15 gallons of fuel spilled although no one was hurt.  WCJB

CULTURE NEWS

  • An all-breed horse show will take place in Ocala this month—Horse Capital TV shared details for horse lovers to plan their visit.  WCJB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Ocala on April 2nd to update local reporters on state matters.  WCJB
  • During a recent City Council meeting, the Ocala Police Department reported making 1,256 traffic stops from March 17 to March 30, which marked a 65% increase over the same period last year. A heat map showed that stops were concentrated on major roads such as State Road 200 — S Pine Avenue, Silver Springs Boulevard, SE Maricamp Road and U.S. Highway 27.  Ocala-News
  • Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference at 10 a.m. at the Marion County Sheriff's Office in Ocala on Wednesday.  WCJB
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded $5,000 bonus checks to several Marion County sheriff's deputies on April 2nd as part of Florida’s Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program—at least 12 new deputies received their checks during a news conference. He said that more than 7,800 bonuses had been awarded statewide and about 700 additional checks will be mailed to law enforcement officers—this program began in 2022.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • On Tuesday, April 1, Ocala City Council approved spending $576,380 to buy bulletproof vests and a Lenco BearCat armored vehicle to upgrade the police SWAT gear—the decision came after discussions on improving safety and replacing an older, hard-to-drive MRAP that served for over a decade.  Ocala-News

  • AdventHealth broke ground on a new 12-bed emergency room in Ocala on Wednesday. The facility will offer services such as x-rays & CT scans and is set to open next year as the area grows.  WCJB
