  • This week in North Central Florida, authorities will investigate an alleged scam involving a runaway dog and a theft of a husky — local officials will also address a wildfire in Ocala National Forest, a residential fire in Bradford County, and a rally to support the USPS while the World Masters Athletic Competition gets underway.  WCJB

  • At the Shoppes Off 80th at the World Equestrian Center, more than a dozen vendors including equestrian stores, a local flower shop, a pilates studio and high-end golf and apparel retailers have signed up to open business. The 80,000 square foot complex will be located next to The Riding Academy Hotel — with an Event Center set to open later.  Ocala-News

  • Ocala residents celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a special visit from the Budweiser Clydesdales—adding equine flair to their festivities and marking an annual local tradition—featured in the Weekly Buzz.  WCJB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters in Ocala National Forest entered their third day of battling a wildfire and made progress toward containing it—officials say more work is needed to fully control the blaze.  WCJB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The United States Navy will test bombs at the Pinecastle Range Complex in the Ocala National Forest every day this week, with testing scheduled today from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Wednesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Drivers and residents are advised to use extra caution—wildlife may be displaced and items that attract animals should be secured.  Ocala-News
