- ➤ On March 13th, 2025, Korean War-era veteran Jim Boland (92) joined more than two dozen volunteers at Ignite Ministries to sort and load food into about 150 cars at the drive-through outreach (7173 SW State Road 200), which gives food to community members. Ocala Gazette
- ➤ Eight Budweiser Clydesdales and their historic red beer wagon made a special St. Patrick’s Day appearance in downtown Ocala Square (the event kicked off at 5 p.m.) and allowed residents to view the horses up close (each weighing about two thousand pounds). WCJB
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A former Winn-Dixie that sat vacant for over a decade was demolished last month to clear space for a Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3535 Maricamp Road near SE 36th Avenue & a self-service gas station and two outparcels will also be built. Walmart received rezoning approval last September and a local demolition company handled the work. Ocala-News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to Nov. 30th and in 2024 Florida had three hurricanes—two of which were major—that showed many new residents may need to strengthen their storm preparations. Residents are urged to check their home safety and gather disaster supplies before the season begins. Ocala StarBanner
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Marion County School Board renewed a $16.3 million contract on March 13 with MCSO, Ocala PD, and Belleview PD — agencies that will provide School Resource Officers in schools through 2028. The new deal replaces the previous contract that ends on June 30 and meets safety law requirements. Ocala Gazette
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A developer plans to build a self-storage facility and 78 homes on a 39-acre site at 9494 SE Highway 42 in Summerfield + the property was purchased for $3.2 million from the Schillings and first filed in July 2023. The master plan will be reviewed at today's county meeting at 9 a.m. and will be built in five phases once approved. Ocala-News
