On March 13th, 2025, Korean War-era veteran Jim Boland (92) joined more than two dozen volunteers at Ignite Ministries to sort and load food into about 150 cars at the drive-through outreach (7173 SW State Road 200), which gives food to community members.

A former Winn-Dixie that sat vacant for over a decade was demolished last month to clear space for a Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3535 Maricamp Road near SE 36th Avenue & a self-service gas station and two outparcels will also be built.

Walmart received rezoning approval last September and a local demolition company handled the work.

The Marion County School Board renewed a $16.3 million contract on March 13 with MCSO, Ocala PD, and Belleview PD — agencies that will provide School Resource Officers in schools through 2028.

The new deal replaces the previous contract that ends on June 30 and meets safety law requirements.

A developer plans to build a self-storage facility and 78 homes on a 39-acre site at 9494 SE Highway 42 in Summerfield + the property was purchased for $3.2 million from the Schillings and first filed in July 2023.

The master plan will be reviewed at today's county meeting at 9 a.m. and will be built in five phases once approved.
