- ➤ Horse Capital TV is highlighting the Children's Charity Classic, uniting local business, equine experts, and residents who support children today in Ocala. WCJB
- ➤ After a railroad tie fire on Feb. 1 near East McKinney Ave, more than 100 Dunnellon residents met at City Hall to demand clearer communication + faster cleanup. Officials said the fire is contained, no injuries occurred, and CSX will remove remaining ties, with extra rail cars arriving next week. Ocala StarBanner

- ➤ Dunnellon declared a seven-day state of emergency after creosote-treated railroad ties caught fire on Sunday, Feb. 1 near E. McKinney Street, and officials advised residents to limit outdoor activities as CSX works to remove the ties. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ Mary Sue Rich Community Center (1821 NW 21st Avenue) will host a free introductory African dance class on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. DeNaya Wilkerson will lead the event featuring African rhythms, drumming and storytelling while RSVP is requested. Ocala-News
- ➤ Participants finished the Great Florida Cattle Drive 2026 on Jan. 31 at the Okeechobee Cattleman’s Arena after a week-long ride from northeast Ocala that honored our region’s ranching roots. Organizers also held cultural dances and fundraising supporting veterans, at-risk youth, and agricultural heritage (a nod to our living history). Ocala Gazette

- ➤ Ocala has announced that NE 9th Street between North Magnolia and NE Eighth will close from 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 until 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 for CSX railroad crossing maintenance.
